In this session you will learn several tactics in applying an intelligent approach to your athletic diet and nutritional needs. The panel discussion will be comprised of leading health and diet gurus, sports nutritionists and supplement companies.

Description:
If you have been training in any of the mixed martial arts disciplines than you are no stranger to injuries. Muscle tears, joint strains, even broken bones are commonplace when training and competing. There are, however, time-tested measures to help avoid many easily avoidable injuries. Unfortunately, there are times when injuries are unavoidable and need to be treated.
In this session, the pros will teach you how to avoid common injuries and how to treat the ones you might encounter.

Mark R. McLaughlin, M.D., FACS
Doctor Mark McLaughlin practices neurological surgery with a focus on spine disorders at Princeton Brain and Spine Care. After graduating from The Pingry School in 1983, he received his Bachelors Degree at The College of William and Mary in Virginia, majoring in philosophy. He went on to graduate from the Medical College of Virginia with Alpha Omega Alpha honors (equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa). He completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh under the guidance of Dr. Peter Jannetta. During this time he received multiple honors including chief residency and a two-time resident teaching award. After completing his seven year residency, Dr. McLaughlin received further specialized training in complex and minimal access spine surgery during a Fellowship with Dr. Regis Haid at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta.
Mark McLaughlin, M.D. served as the President of the Young Neurosurgeons’ Committee, a national section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is the Scientific Program Chairman of the AANS/CNS Joint Spine Section. He is an editor of Spineuniverse.com, a website dedicated to patient and physician education of spinal disorders. In addition to this national recognition, he has organized an international consultative link with neurosurgeons in Russia. With collaboration from the World Federation of Neurological Surgeons, he initiated the first ever Russian-American Spine Symposium held in St. Petersburg, Russia, May, 2000. Dr. McLaughlin’s efforts in Russia were highlighted in Parade Magazine.
Dr. McLaughlin has published more than 65 articles on neurosurgery and spine surgery, and has authored two textbooks about spine surgery. He has been an invited speaker, presenter and course director at numerous scientific meetings, and teaches complex spine surgery nationally and internationally. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. McLaughlin is the head coach of the Princeton PAWS recreation wrestling program for first through eighth graders.
Dr. McLaughlin was recently elected Member-at-Large of the Joint Spine Section of the Congress of Neurosurgeons.

Nirav K. Shah, M.D. - Neurosurgeon
Doctor Nirav Shah practices neurological surgery with an emphasis on complex spinal surgery and intracranial tumor/radiosurgery at Princeton Brain and Spine Care.
Dr. Shah graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Pennsylvania State University where he completed an accelerated Bachelors-Medical Doctorate program. After graduation with Alpha Omega Alpha (medical equivalent to Phi Beta Kappa) honors from Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania he went on to complete his internship and five-year residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. While at the University of Maryland, Dr. Shah received specialized clinical training in planning and managing gamma knife cases and an extensive six-month rotation in neurotrauma. Further, at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and Spine Center, Dr. Shah completed a six-month apprenticeship in complex spine surgery. He has continued special education in minimal access spinal technologies, neuronavigation, and disc arthroplasty.
Nirav Shah, M.D.’s clinical research has been published in many peer-review journals. Further, he has contributed chapters to textbooks and has presented his research at society meetings.
Most recently, Dr. Shah contributed a chapter to the medical textbook Cerebral Vasospasm published by Thieme Medical Publishers.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Shah believes strongly in serving the community and regularly gives his time to several organizations. He is an avid runner/jogger, who has participated in marathons, is a published poet, and enjoys sports including hiking, rugby, and sailing.

Prithvi Narayan M.D. - Neurosurgeon
Dr. Prithvi Narayan is a seasoned neurosurgeon with a broad-based expertise covering all age groups.
Dr. Narayan brings to Princeton Brain & Spine Care a stellar reputation as a respected leader among his peers in both the medical and education communities. He served as the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, New York and Attending Neurosurgeon at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, New York. Dr. Narayan earned prestigious academic appointments as Assistant Professor at New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York and Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, New York. His clinical research and articles have appeared in the field's most revered medical publications and textbooks and he has presented at the major professional meetings.
Dr. Narayan graduated from Washington University School of Medicine and went on to complete his internship and residency at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia where he was awarded the Suzie C. Tindall Resident Achievement Award. He earned a fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
After completing his training, Dr. Prithvi Narayan embarked on an academic career in the New York City area and developed a highly respected practice. Aftr several years his interest in adult neurosurgey and his longtime friendship with Dr. McLaughlin drew him to the Princeton area. His commitment to practice patient centered, high quality compassionate care care was a perfect fit with Princeton Brain & Spine Care.
His caring and compassion continues through his ongoing commitment to family and community. Dr. Narayan speaks at schools to raise awareness among student and teachers about head injury prevention. His leisure time is spent playing guitar with friends and playing tennis. Michael Kim, Attorney
Michael Kim is an attorney and received his Bachelor's degree from New York University and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. In law school, he authored his dissertation, "Mixed Martial Arts: The Evolution of a Combat Sport and its Laws & Regulations" and was able to work with the Nevada State Athletic Commission through a firm in Las Vegas.
Michael has been a speaker at the 2008 and 2009 Association of Boxing Commissions Conferences. In 2009, Kim worked as a Graduate Fellow in Assemblyman Steven Englebright's office, sponsor of the A2009 - MMA legislation. Working with the New York State Athletic Commission and promotions, Kim was intimately involved with the legislative process in bringing MMA to New York.

Eddie Goldman, Combat Sports Journalist
Eddie Goldman is the most sought-after and well-rounded journalist in the combat sports.
Eddie is the host and producer of the No Holds Barred podcast (http://nhbnews.podomatic.com). He produces the No Holds Barred blog (http://eddiegoldman.com). He is senior contributing editor at the ADCC News (http://adcombat.com). He is a senior contributing editor at TapouT Magazine. He is also the boxing correspondent for the Joey Reynolds Show on WOR 710 AM radio in New York.
In 2008, Eddie was presented by Gladiator Magazine with its first-ever Lifetime Journalism Achievement Award, and named the "Conscience of the Combat Sports".
